Recently, a few members of the Atilus and PKE Marketing teams had the amazing opportunity to volunteer with one of Fort Myers’ local organizations, Community Cooperative Ministries Incorporated (CCMI).
CCMI, an organization that has been serving Southwest Florida for 22 years, has a very distinct mission: “to eliminate hunger and homelessness in Lee County while simultaneously inspiring and supporting sustained positive change in its clients by delivering innovating food, education, and social service programs.”
More Than The Average Soup Kitchen
What used to be simply titled “The Soup Kitchen” has now been transformed into the “Everyday Café.” Rather than serving food in the traditional soup kitchen manner, The Everyday Café offers a variety of foods (on our volunteer day: turkey with vegetables, white rice, chili, cabbage soup, pasta salad, and bread) that provide nutrition as well as good taste. In addition, visitors are able to come in, sit down, give their order, and enjoy a meal in a positive atmosphere.
However, that’s not all CCMI does. The Everyday Café is only 1 of 9 programs run by CCMI. The others include: Community Montessori School, Café Education, Everyday Markets, Food Outreach, Meals on Wheels, Homeless Services, School Backpack & Pantry Program, and the United Way Resource House.
How You Can Help CCMI
CCMI provides true value to our community by giving back to those who need it most. Through the variety of programs offered, there are many ways you can help.
- Become a Volunteer (For the Everyday Cafés, Meals on Wheels, and other programs)
- Sponsor a Food Drive
- Spread the Word!
Thank you to CCMI for all you do for the community and allowing us to volunteer at the Everyday Café! It was a truly enjoyable experience and we’re definitely looking forward to participating again!
