This is completely off of our normal topic, but it is something I just needed to highlight. I get the “Gulfshore Business Daily Email Newsletter” in my inbox everyday with local business information. Yesterday morning the following came in:
MARCH FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY
March foreclosure filings increased dramatically in Southwest Florida compared with the same period a year ago, according to RealtyTrac, an Irvine, Calif. company that tracks foreclosure activity. In Lee County there were 3,339 filings, up from 587 in March 2007, but down from February’s 3,739 filings. Collier County foreclosure filings in March totaled 748 compared with 134 a year ago, and 586 in February. In Charlotte County, March filings were 341, up from 177 during the same period in 2007 and 320 filings in February.
In other words:
570% Increase in Foreclosures in Lee County from last year
560% Increase in Foreclosures in Collier County from last year
wow…
I also just realized the connection to the number of homes selling… this mess is compounded as all of this new inventory is released on an already saturated market.
Now is certainly a good time to begin counting our blessings and giving thanks.
