If you’re on this site, there is a very good chance that you already know who this person is. Matt Mullenweg is the developer of WordPress, the free and open source web software that we all know and love. He is also the founder of Automattic, the site behind WordPress.com, Akismet, Gravatar, VaultPress, IntenseDebate, Polldaddy, and others. This man is 28 years old – and is his work is responsible for the powering of 15% of the web. Personally, I am a huge fan of WordPress and I love its simple and intuitive design. I am new to the world of web design, and WordPress has been pretty easy for me to get the hang of. In 2011, WordPress blogs reached the 50 million milestone – powering over 50 million blogs globally!
I would go into detail about his awards/recognitions, but I think the list is WAY too long to get into! (He listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 for Social/Mobile for his impact on blogging, and WordPress was awarded the Overall Best Open Source CMS Award in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards – just to name a couple.)
James Altucher: StockPickr.com & The Altucher Confidential
Simply put, James Altucher is pure genius. His blog, The Altucher Confidential, is a site I enjoy visiting and his ideas/quotes are referenced in some other blogs here on Atilus’ website (Learning to Lose So That You Can Succeed and What Dating Can Teach You About Marketing). His theories on life, happiness and success are cut and dry (and also laced with a bit of profanity – which I like). He displays a real-world sense of how find happiness in your life, whether it’s through quitting a crappy job or (one of my favorites) being completely honest with people.
Altucher is a former hedge fund manager, and he developed a financial services website, StockPickr.com. Aside from being a financial services website, this was the first website to integrate both investment ideas and social networking. The community, The Stock Idea Network, combines knowledge from professional investors as well as community members. StockPickr was named one of Time’s 50 Best Websites in 2007.
